RAF Wittering
RAF Wittering was the ‘Home of the Harrier’ having taken delivery of the first GR.1 Harrier in August 1969. Various versions flew from Wittering, right up to the GR.9, which served in Afghanistan. The Harrier fleet was withdrawn in December 2010
Four Harrier airframes are housed at the museum:
XV279 Hawker Siddeley P.1127 (RAF) Pre-production Harrier
XV779 Harrier GR.3
XZ146 Harrier T.4
ZD318 Harrier GR.7
There is also a Harrier GR.7A Gate Guard – ZD469
Wittering Heritage Centre
RAF Wittering Heritage Centre houses these lovingly cared for airframes. They are in immaculate condition and can be visited free of charge. These guys work hard to preserve the memory and only ask for a donation to keep them going.
